Internship to Durban Botanical Garden

Marta Manjate (INIA Garden), Hilário Machava (Tunduro Garden), and Domingos Manguengue (UEM Garden) visited the Durban Botanical Garden from 22–29 September 2002 to gain experience on propagation techniques, soil preparation, and pest control of some threatened plant species, for example, Encephalartos sp. At the Silverglen Medicinal Plant Nursery, we learned how to propagate Warburgia salutaris and other medicinal plants. We had the opportunity to participate in the Horticulture Open Day at the Durban Education Centre.

It was great to be among experts and we hope to implement our new knowledge into our Threatened Plant Programme. We would like to thank SABONET for sponsoring our trip to Durban. We appreciate the co-operation of Mr Christopher Dalzell and his staff. We extend our thanks to Silverglen Nursery for sharing their knowledge with us.
